A packed, boisterous audience watched Serena Williams overcome Estonia's Anett Kontaveit, the No. 2 player in the world, in the second round of the US Open on Wednesday night at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
She has now advanced to the tournament's third round. The Australian player Ajla Tomljanovic will be Williams' next opponent.
On Wednesday, Tomljanovic, who was competing at the same time as Williams, defeated Evgeniya Rodina of Russia 1-6, 6-2, 7-5.
Although the match schedule has not yet been made public, the third round gets underway on Friday.
But it's not just that: Williams will compete in women's doubles at the US Open alongside her sister Venus Williams in addition to singles.
Tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. ET, they are set to go on the court for their first-round match at Arthur Ashe Stadium. They'll perform as the Czech couple Linda Noskova and Lucie Hradecka.
